Tina Fey recalls calling Lorne Michaels to make sure Jon Hamm wasn't 'a dick' before casting him in 30 Rock

Turns out, Tina Fey had to check with Lorne Michaels before she officially declared "I want to go to there" to Jon Hamm on '30 Rock.'

Longtime Saturday Night Live alum Fey remarked that she hadn't met Hamm yet when he hosted the sketch comedy series in October 2008, but she was considering him for a role on her hit sitcom, 30 Rock. "And I remember calling or emailing Lorne [Michaels, SNL creator] and saying, 'Let me know if he’s funny because we have a part coming up on 30 Rock that would be great for him,'" she told Hamm, adding, "and also to make sure you weren’t a dick." When Fey's leading lady Liz Lemon first meets Drew, she quickly learns three things: He's her neighbor, he's a doctor, and he loves to bake.
