The street where I grew up: Comedian and musician Bill Bailey, 59, shares memories of Wellsway near Bath

Bill Bailey, 59, shares memories of Wellsway, Keynsham, near Bath. He says: 'We lived in a rambling Elizabethan building.'

We lived in a beautiful rural area straight out of a Thomas Hardy novel and I remember Mum collecting apples from our garden to make pies, and plums for jam and tarts. A lot of my dad’s patients were farmers and at Christmas time the doorbell would ring and I’d be confronted with some chap handing over a brace of pheasants ‘for the doctor’. Mum gave me my love of music, along with my piano teacher at King Edward’s School in Bath, Lynda Phipps, who was one of those rare people, a genuine inspiration.
