When Phillip Schofield decided that he didn't want to run the risk of a much younger former lover ever divulging details of their affair, he hired lawyers to negotiate a non-disclosure agreement.
The former producer — who left ITV with a payout in 2020 — has seen his life turned upside down since May last year when Schofield, after being confronted about lies he’d told about the affair, issued a statement to the Mail confirming that it had taken place. Friends of the man, who was known as Person X at ITV, are also angry about the fact that Schofield had the opportunity to have his say and share some intimate details of the romance, while his younger lover no longer has that choice because he was persuaded to sign an NDA. Sir Elton John jumped to his defence, saying that the whole scandal was ‘homophobic’, while actor Rupert Everett said that the media should ‘drop’ the story — despite ITV launching an independent inquiry into the matter.
