American Idol star Debra Byrd dies aged 72 as Jennifer Hudson leads tributes


Debra Byrd, who was best known for her role as a vocal coach on American Idol, has died at the age of 72. The star had worked with the likes of Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson

American Idol star Debra Byrd has sadly passed away at the age of 72, with Jennifer Hudson leading the tributes to the singer and professional music coach. Mandy singer Barry Manilow, 80, also posted about the loss of Debra, who was a member of his backup group Ladyflash. And in 2019, Debra was employed by NBC as a supervisor for vocal production for the network's Super Bowl tribute to Prince, which Spike Lee directed.
