Bereaved family sues production company and National Geographic for failing to protect Omar Khan’s identity in Emmy-winning documentary Retrograde

The family of an Afghan man allegedly tortured and killed by the Taliban has sued the producers of an American documentary accusing them of failing to protect his identity. The documentary featured the 25-year-old Omar Khan, a mine clearer who worked with the Green Berets whose good looks earned him the nickname “Justin Bieber”. Thomas Kasza, the executive director of the 1208 Foundation, which helps Afghans who worked with US special forces, testified before Congress last year and said Retrograde had put lives at risk.
