I know Manic Pixie Dream Girl is a practically carbon-dated term of art at this point but how else can I describe the hot redheaded sprite who is sneaking in and out of Mooney’s because (paraphrasing only slightly) she feels terrible for the books because they are lonely and rotting away in a store she assumes will soon be lost to the soul-slurping capitalist forces that take every good thing from this vile world? He confesses, accusing her of having lost the plot ever since she came back from London “with a simp of a husband and a fucking kid.” He threatens to reveal the truth about Kate’s complicity in covering up Rhys’ death.
