Yle Drama’s Jarmo Lampela on His Int’l Co-Production Drive and Robust Slate at Series Mania (EXCLUSIVE)

The Finnish head of drama talks series projects ‘Torna a Surriento’ with Italy, ‘Thirst’ with Canada.

In the last few years, Lampela, who says Yle is window flexible, has developed what he calls “media partner models.” In Spain, his partnership with The Mediapro Studio gave birth to three seasons of crime thriller “The Paradise. “It depends if it makes sense story-wise,” notes Lampela who co-produced the Prix Europa winning inaugural season with European partners RTVE, 3Cat (the first broadcaster on board), SVT and NDR. Another flagship series at an early stage with international partners is the spy thriller “Learning to Fly”, produced by Germany’s Odeon Fiction, in co-production with Sweden’s Dramanation, Spain’s Studio60 and Yle.
