Yellowstone fans think they've figured out how Kevin Costner will be written off the series... and the clues go all the way back to the first season

Fans seized on a health scare from season one that was again teased in the second season as a potential way for showrunner Taylor Sheridan to kill off Costner's character.

But now that Costner's time with Yellowstone is over, fans have been picking their brains to figure out how Sheridan — who has written or co-written the vast majority of the series — will write the acting legend off the show. Among fans, one theory with roots going all the way back to season one has recently taken hold that could elegantly end Costner's popular stint on Yellowstone, while also not violating a clause in his contract that stipulates how he can be killed off. John's colon cancer was resolved later in season one after he had a seemingly successful operation to remove the mass, though his children Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Jamie (Wes Bentley) eventually learned of the illness.
