Mary Byrne, who shared the stage with him during the seventh series when One Direction was formed, remembered their bond affectionately, "the older mammy and the boy". Meanwhile, Rebecca Ferguson, another X Factor alum, conveyed her heartache in a poignant message to her fans on social media, which she later removed.
