X CEO Linda Yaccarino Was No Match for Elon Musk

Twitter/X has always been a peculiar site: Though far less widely-used than Facebook or Instagram, its particular place in culture has been as a conduit for information, whether from media outlets, elected officials, or — more and more — fringe operators. The contours of Musk’s distinctive personality have come to define many aspects of mid-2020s American life; his recent acrimonious break with the President, after spending months as a free-rein advisor in Trump’s White House, indicated once again that he does not operate well under restraint. Both the content of the site and Yaccarino’s particular actions may have mattered little: The New York Times’ report on her departure makes clear that X has found its way to a sort-of comeback thanks to an accident of proximity.
