Won't you be my neighbor? A friendly nod to lessons of Mr. Rogers

“Won’t You Be My Neighbor Day” is celebrated on Fred Rogers’ birthday on March 20 and encourages people to perform random acts of kindness.

While Carter is making new friends with neighbors in her new neighborhood, her Grandma and Grandpa are developing a sense of belonging at their new home in Crawfordville, near the Wakulla River. Mr. Fred Rogers left a promising career at NBC to work at a public television station, WQED, while studying to become a Presbyterian minister. He relied on the wisdom of his esteemed mentor at the University of Pittsburg School of Medicine, Dr. Margaret McFarland, to develop curriculum for the program that would help youngsters deal with everyday concerns as well as those that are challenging even for adults.
