Amy Allen, Variety's Hitmakers Songwriter of the Year, dominated 2024 with hits by Sabrina Carpenter, Rose, Tate McRae, Justin Timberlake and more.
Her work over the past couple of years alone includes hits for Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, Justin Timberlake, Harry Styles, Selena Gomez, Olivia Rodrigo, Rosé and others, and she also dropped her self-titled first full-length solo album in August. Allen and Carpenter’s chemistry is obvious in their songs, which have a trademark humor despite their serious situations — like “Please Please Please,” which is aimed at a boyfriend with problematic behavior (“Heartbreak is one thing, my ego’s another/ I beg you, don’t embarrass me, motherfucker”). The Maine-born Allen, 32, has been playing in bands since childhood and earned her chops the hard way, gigging and releasing her own CDs while studying with hitmaker/“American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi at the Berklee School of Music before focusing on songwriting.
