Willa Acquires Global Rights To ‘Bauryna Salu’, Kazakhstan’s International Oscar Entry

Willa has acquired global distribution rights to Bauryna Salu, Kazakhstan’s entry for the Best International Feature Oscar, and plans a 2025 release.

Written and directed by Askhat Kuchinchirekov, the film stars a breakthrough ensemble cast led by Yersultan Yerman, Aidos Auesbay, Bigaysha Salkyn, Dinara Shymyrbay, Damir Daurenuly and Yerkin Berikuly. In Kazakhstan, the ancient nomadic tradition of “Bauryna Salu” dictates that first-born children are given to their grandparents to be raised, far from their biological parents. Their support in bringing my film to screens worldwide helps bridge our cultural landscape with others, creating a space where our shared human experiences can resonate deeply.”
