Will Ferrell says James Caan told him 'You’re not funny' on 'Elf' set: 'I don’t get you'

Will Ferrell said that his on-screen dad, James Caan, told him 'You're not funny' while they filmed 'Elf' together.

In an interview with Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler on their podcast MeSsy, the Step Brothers star revealed that the Godfather actor had some harsh words when they played father and son in the 2003 Christmas classic. Ferrell said that Caan’s befuddlement at Buddy the Elf’s on-screen demeanor helped strengthen the comedic dynamic between the two characters. The Anchorman star also said that he was anxious about the film’s success, as it was his first major project since departing Saturday Night Live, and he felt that his career was on the line.
