Why Katy Perry Leaned on Her Global Fanbase to Launch the U.S. Leg of ‘The Lifetimes Tour’: ‘I Want to Reconnect’

Katy Perry will take 'The Lifetimes Tour' to several cities across the United States starting on May 7 in Houston, Texas' Toyota Center.

Nearly eight years ago, when Perry put a cap on her “Witness” tour, the singer unintentionally left the stage as a traveling headliner for the last time. When she previewed “The Lifetimes Tour” with a sprawling and high tech show at Rock in Rio in September, the same day she released “143,” a sea of 100,000 people sang feverishly along. Donning Wonder Woman-esque uniform at Rock in Rio, Perry ran through her most recognizable singles — “California Gurls” and “E.T,” notably including a fair share of songs from her 2020 album, “Smile,” and her latest, “143.” Visually, the show heavily relied on futuristic themes, otherworldly technology and its impact on human connection.
