Why Camilla ended decades-long royal tradition that was close to Queen's heart
Ever since King Charles' accession, Queen Camilla has done away with one key tradition which has been beloved by Queens and other senior royal ladies for centuries
The key roles of the late Queen's ladies were to help her with the daily demands of being monarch, for example by putting her busy diary of official engagements together, arranging private family events and dealing with everything else in between. Lady Susan originally joined the Royal Household in 1960 as someone to help answer letters but quickly rose through the ranks and became one of The Queen's closest friends. The short list of those honoured include her sister, Annabel Elliot, the Marchioness of Lansdowne and Sarah Troughton (Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire).
