What went wrong for Olly Alexander? How UK's Eurovision hopeful landed the dreaded 'nil point' with 'sabotaged' sound, weak lyrics and axed interview in 'career-destroying' bid for glory

A collective groan was heard around the UK on Saturday evening when the dreaded 'nil point' was announced for the country's entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest.

An email sent from the organisers of the show on Friday read: 'Please note that the big five and Sweden media conference originally scheduled for 18.30 (5.30pm BST) has been cancelled because all artists want to focus on rehearsals.' The cancellation of the media conference was yet another twist and turn in the most chaotic and political Eurovision in the competition's history, which also saw the Dutch act pulled and the Isreali entry picketed. Huge pro-Palestine protests attended by the likes of Greta Thunberg have already taken place in the host city of Malmo in Sweden - forcing Israeli singer Eden Golan to take shelter in her hotel guarded by armed police.
