What a frock-star! Sam Smith stuns Royal Albert Hall audience as 32-year-old performs live on stage while donning black polka dot suit before switching into outlandish red velour gown

Recent live performances have seen the singer, who announced they were non-binary in 2019, dance in a corset and bare their bottom, leading traditionalists to worry about the gig.

Having given assurances there would be no shocks, Smith opened the show in a black polka dot, double-breasted suit by Vivienne Westwood’s creative director Andreas Kronthaler, teamed with a long bow tie and a plain white shirt underneath. Smith barely stopped smiling as they joined the BBC Concert Orchestra on Friday night for what was billed as a retrospective look at the singer’s seminal 2014 debut solo album, In The Lonely Hour.
