We Were Robbed of a Viola Davis Speech Tonight
There is footage of her accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Gala on Friday, but still.
This year, the Golden Globes honored the actress and EGOT winner as the 2025 recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her contributions to the entertainment industry. Luckily, Gold Derby has a video of Davis’s acceptance speech, in which she reflected on how a “dark-skinned, Black woman with a wide nose and big lips” can’t always be picky about the roles they take and explained that she believes characters that are dead or that nobody cares about “came to me because they knew that I would love them.” She also spoke at length about how much being a Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient meant to her. Other past recipients include Walt Disney, Audrey Hepburn, Frank Sinatra, Alfred Hitchcock, Lucille Ball, Sidney Poitier, Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, and Denzel Washington.
