Wayne Kramer, Influential MC5 Co-Founder and Guitarist, Dies at 75


Wayne Kramer, who co-founded MC5 with Fred 'Sonic' Smith and influenced the creation of punk rock, died Friday.

Wayne Kramer, the influential guitarist who co-founded Detroit’s proto-punk band MC5, died Friday, according to a post on his official Instagram page. MC5 played the protests outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention, and raised controversy with their debut album “Kick Out the Jams,” on which they endorsed the Black Panthers’ role in the Detroit riots. MC5 was a big influence on Iggy and the Stooges and numerous other musicians who went on form punk rock bands.
