A week, let alone a year, is a long time in politics, and it appears that Liz Truss who left the UK’s highest office in October 2023 is no longer a completely familiar face. Racing specialist Matt Chapman was doing the rounds in the parade ring, asking spectators for their tips when he chanced upon successful racehorse owner Jim Hay and got a few words on the day. Truss infamously presided over one of the more volatile periods in British history, when her economic decisions to make tax cuts and borrow money for dramatic growth plunged the country into near-recession, so it is unlikely that, even if he had recognised her, Chapman would have asked her for a racing tip suggestion.
