Watch Gifted to John Lennon Months Before Death Belongs to Yoko Ono, Court Rules


A Swiss court ruled on Thursday that John Lennon's Patek Philippe, the "Holy Grail" of vintage watches, rightfully belongs to his wife Yoko Ono.

In 1980, two months before his assassination outside the Dakota Apartments in New York, John Lennon was gifted a Patek Philippe watch by his wife Yoko Ono for his 40th birthday. As Fielden noted in his New Yorker piece, Lennon’s watch represents more than it hefty financial value, symbolizing a pivotal moment in the couple’s story. In November 1980, Lennon released Double Fantasy, which captured the their iconic kiss on the cover, and included a noted four songs dedicated to Ono.
