Speaking with Billboard ‘s Kyle Denis for a cover story chronicling the days leading up to his blockbuster Freedom Street concert in Kingston, Jamaica, dancehall legend Vybz Kartel gave Cardi B her flowers and teased a forthcoming collaboration. After Kartel’s release, pictures showing how the autoimmune disease altered his appearance started circulating the Internet, and Cardi B quickly came to his defense against nasty trolls. She and Tina linked up again later that year for “Island Girls.” In 2021, she threw a dancehall-themed 29th birthday party that saw Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion and Teyana Taylor dressed in their best dancehall fashions.
