Van Halen Reunion Axed After David Lee Roth Rejected Tribute to Eddie

The planned Van Halen reunion made it to rehearsals before David Lee Roth shot down Alex Van Halen’s suggestion of a tribute to his late brother

The Van Halen drummer, 71, told Rolling Stone that the reunion made it as far as rehearsals before he broached the subject with Roth, 70, leading to an argument that derailed the potential tour. “The thing that broke the camel’s back, and I can be honest about this now, was I said, ‘Dave, at some point, we have to have a very overt — not a bowing — but an acknowledgment of Ed in the gig,’” Alex said. Alex added that he even consulted with Queen’s Brian May, picking his brain about how the band continues to play while honoring their late singer, Freddie Mercury.
