Val Kilmer's heartbreaking family tragedy that haunted him for years and inspired acting role

Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, who has sadly died at the age of 65, was hit by a heartbreaking family tragedy when he was just 17, and the loss haunted him for years

Previously, the actor had battled throat cancer following a diagnosis in 2014, a health struggle that left him unable to speak and largely out of the public eye for several years until he made a recovery. In 1977, the family was hit by a devastating event when Kilmer's younger brother Wesley, who had epilepsy, tragically drowned in a hot tub at the tender age of 15. The incident hit Val Kilmer hard, and it poured into his heartbreaking performance in 2002's The Salton Sea, revolving around a guilt-stricken man after his wife's murder.
