Uruguayan soccer player Juan Izquierdo died after coming into contact with an opposing player and falling to the ground unconscious during a match last week
The Nacional defender fell to the ground unconscious during Copa Libertadores’ game against Sao Paolo on Thursday, August 22. Oliver was traveling home from a Caribbean vacation with his two daughters — Madita and Annik, whom he shared with wife Jessica Klepser — on January 4. In memory of Izquierdo, Brazilian Football Federation president Ednaldo Rodrigues said a moment of silence would be observed before every match organized by the league on Wednesday.
