U.S. Figure Skating Launches Fund to Support Families of D.C. Crash Victims


The U.S. Figure Skating plans to provide ‘financial assistance’ to those directly impacted by the Wednesday, January 29 crash

Former Olympic ice dancer Alex Shibutani shared the fund link via his Instagram Stories on Saturday, February 1, writing, “Please be sensitive and respectful of the privacy of those directly affected. News broke on Wednesday, January 29, that a commercial American Airlines flight traveling from Wichita, Kansas collided with a military helicopter and crashed in the Potomac River outside Washington, D.C. All 67 individuals involved in the accident died upon impact. So many people see this tragedy and the loss of these brilliant young skaters who have poured their lives into building an identity in our sport,” Olympian Scott Hamilton said on the Today show on Friday, January 31.
