U.K. Film and High-End TV Spend Reached Almost $7 Billion in 2024, Up 31% From Strike-Ravaged 2023

New figures from the BFI show that spend in the UK leaped 31% in 2024 over the strike-ravaged 2023, with film enjoying the biggest jump

In its annual report, the BFI said that film and high-end TV production spend in the U.K. reached £5.6 billion ($6.9 billion) in 2024, up 31% on 2023, which had been hit hard by the strikes, and ahead of 2019’s pre-COVID spend. Of the figure, the lion’s share was TV, with £3.2 billion — up 20% on 2023 (and the third highest annual spend since tax relief was introduced in 2013). Meanwhile film production saw the biggest gain as further Hollywood tentpoles came to the U.K., increasing 56% on 2023 with £3.4 billion spent.
