Trend watch: Denim shirts

From timeless images of Lauren Hutton in denim shirts in the 1970s right up to Rihanna’s maternity wear, the denim shirt has been a fashion constant

As well as double-denim looks, denim shirts were layered over T-shirts, tucked in and buttoned up under an oversized blazer, or teamed with tailored trousers to create a smart-casual option. Look out for Arket’s greige smock cut (1, below), which comes with a matching skirt (£67) or try With Nothing Underneath’s new offwhite version of their sell-out blue denim shirt (4, below), which you can opt to monogram for an extra chic flourish. At the time of writing Asos Marketplace had a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt (£18) and a chambray Thomas Burberry style (£45), while depop.com had multiple Levi’s options listed.
