Toronto film festival CEO Cameron Bailey says that TIFF's 2026 launch of an organized market reflects industry changes.

Just as Toronto’s festival programmers are now teasing their first film picks, TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey shares with Variety his thinking behind the – oft-rejected – move to give the event an organized market. So, the main thing for this year of course, is the announcement that we’ve got federal investment from the Canadian government to support a market that will launch in 2026. We’re going to add on to that with project packages, works in progress, those kinds of things, and provide a great meeting place for the industry, as they have at Cannes and in Berlin.
