Top Hollywood Law Firm Launches Service to Combat Soaring Celebrity Deepfake Phenomenon
Venable LLP, whose clients include Taylor Swift and Peyton, is launching Takedown, a sophisticated program that combats deepfake content online.
Available to new and existing Venable clients, Takedown is designed to protect both individuals and companies from the online spread of unauthorized and abusive content, disinformation and false endorsements as well as copyright and trademark violations. “With the current status quo, threat actors not only gain visibility but they also exploit the public who may be consuming [artificial] content without realizing they’re looking at an illicit deepfake video or image or a fake endorsement. Nigam, who previously served as chief security officer at Fox and NewsCorp and was VP of worldwide internet enforcement at the Motion Picture Association, says so-called threat actors can range from disgruntled fans to nation states looking to create disinformation campaigns.
