Tony Todd’s ‘Candyman’ Co-Star Virginia Madsen Pays Tribute To “My Beloved”
Following Tony Todd's death at age 69, his 'Candyman' co-star Virginia Madsen shared her reaction on Instagram.
Based on Clive Barker ‘s The Forbidden, the Bernard Rose-helmed Candyman(1992) stars Madsen as skeptical grad student Helen Lyle, who becomes stalked by the titular hook-wielding spirit (played by Todd) while investigating urban legends at a Chicago housing project. After portraying heroin-addicted Sergeant Warren in Oliver Stone’s Best Picture Oscar-winning Vietnam War classic Platoon(1986), Todd became a big name in the horror genre, starring in the 1990 remake Night of the Living Dead as Ben, the role played by Duane Jones in George A. Romero’s original 1968 film. In addition to leading three Candyman films and making a cameo in Nia DaCosta’s 2021 requel, Todd also appeared in the Final Destination franchise as funeral director William Bludworth.
