TOMOKO IDA shared her thoughts with Billboard Japan on why female producers are in the minority in the music industry.

The WIM initiative in Japan launched in 2022 to celebrate artists, producers and executives who have made significant contributions to music and inspired other women through their work. Performing live with a sampler and DJing requires flexibility and instant response on the scene, but I have always loved making things and am better at taking my time to create something. The skills required for both performing with a sampler and being a music producer don’t seem to be too demanding in a physical sense, so why do you think there aren’t too many women in these fields?
