Tom Llamas Lays Out His Plans For ‘NBC Nightly News’: “We’re Going To Run Our Own Race, And I Think That’s How You Get To Number One”

Tom Llamas in an interview with Deadline talks about his plans after he succeeds Lester Holt as anchor of the NBC Nightly News.

Llamas’ dual roles speak to where things are for the face of broadcast news divisions, as networks seek to capture younger viewers who never picked up linear television habits. ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir remains the leader, landing at times as the most watched show of the week in all of broadcast television. But I will say this, when a wildfire explodes in L.A., or a war breaks out, or there is a natural disaster somewhere else, or a new president is elected, you can go and try to do a podcast from there, but when you really need answers and you really want to understand what’s going on, you got to have a team in place that been doing this for years that knows how to do it.
