Tom Hanks Says ‘We’ve Had 20 Years’ of Comic Book Spectacle but Now Moviegoers Are Asking: ‘The Story Is What? The Point of This Movie Is What?’


Tom Hanks says moviegoers are no longer interested in VFX spectacles and are returning to good storytelling.

“We are now enjoying the luxury of riches and because you can make anything happen on screen now, we are being brought back to the concept of ‘ok that’s true but what is the story? “You can dream Lake Michigan and fill it with cuckoo clocks that form a three-headed dragon that breathes fire and destroys Chicago. And yet, Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” is the second highest-grossing film of 2024 and the biggest R-rated release in history with $1.3 billion.
