The action movie star, born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV in New York City, has had one of the most successful careers in the world. Cruise began acting in the early 1980s and made his breakthrough with leading roles in the comedy Risky Business (1983) and the action film Top Gun (1986). Then Tom - an outspoken advocate for the Church of Scientology - started his Mission: Impossible film series in 1996 which has seen him make a fortune.
