The top 20 true crime documentaries to watch on demand right now: Our critics sift through hundreds of options to choose the shows worth watching

Infamous murders, miscarriages of justice, cruel conmen and evil cults - they're all here in our unmissable selection of 20 true crime documentaries available to watch now.

This true-crime documentary has a tantalising opener that hints at a cover-up, and from there we hear compelling reasons why the friends and family of 30-year-old Swedish national Annie Börjesson do not buy the police verdict that she committed suicide. The repercussions of what Savile did continue to reverberate and this insightful series, featuring new interviews as well as archive footage, shows us how the monster was hiding in chillingly plain sight thanks, in part, to his friendships with the great and the good. If you’ve seen that miniseries, you’ll recognise some of the contributors here including Candace Mayeron, who was the loose inspiration for Juliette Lewis’s character Denise Coughlin in the series, and there are also interviews with the family of Nick de Noia, the choreographer who was the making of the Chippendales’ show, but whose death was not the first, or the last, in this incredible tale.
