The Simpsons has been a TV staple for 35 years and its loyal fanbase has only just realised a hidden meaning in the iconic opening credits - and it all centres around baby Maggie

The Simpsons has been gracing our screens for a whopping 35 years - but some fans are only just discovering why little Maggie is scanned at the supermarket checkout during the show's iconic intro. A statement on Screen Rant reads: "While Groening [the show's creator] has yet to elaborate on this change, it's perhaps logical to assume that the intention was to make the original gag more relevant to the present day. The decision to show Marge's total doubling might've been made to signify that kids cost a lot, but without committing to a specific number."
