The Notebook actor Gena Rowlands has Alzheimer’s disease, says son
Screen actor, 93, is in ‘full dementia,’ according to son, who directed her performance as an Alzheimer’s patient in the 2004 film The Notebook
Gena Rowlands, the screen actor whose career spans over seven decades and includes two Oscar nominations and an honorary Academy Award, has Alzheimer’s disease, according to her son Nick Cassavetes. Known for her confident, unbridled performances in frequent collaborations with her husband, actor-director John Cassavetes, Rowlands was nominated for two best actress Academy Awards during her illustrious screen career, for Woman Under the Bridge (1974) and Gloria (1980). She also won three Emmy awards, for The Betty Ford Story in 1987, Face of a Stranger in 1992 and Virginia in 2003, and received a lifetime achievement honorary Oscar in 2015 for her contributions to film.
