USC Annenberg's annual women in music report reflected modest gains for women representation in the artist, songwriter and producer fields in 2023.

USC Annenberg's annual music report showed signs of improvement with an increase in the number of female artists, producers and songwriters credited on the biggest hits of 2023 But while all those stats still reflect fewer women in the studio, they are also improvements from the prior year, with all-time highs across all three categories, the report said. “To see progress in one of these areas is encouraging, but there is much more to do to ensure that women behind the scenes in music have access and opportunity to the highest level of songwriting and producing.”
