The Fools Are in Their Feelings in New Clip From ‘Yacht Rock’ Documentary

Director Garret Price discusses his upcoming doc 'Yacht Rock,' and a new clip about the genre's unique currents of male vulnerability.

Writer Alex Pappademas (who wrote a greatbook on yacht rock forebears Steely Dan) explains how this music tapped into rising tide of male vulnerability in an era where men didn’t have to “put up a macho front.” Price even created a Spotify playlist — seen briefly in the clip — called “Fools in Love” that contains as many songs he could find that riff on the theme. “Yet this whole other world was happening in these recording sessions where the Toto members were playing, Michael McDonald was doing background vocals, and Christopher Cross was figuring out his first album.
