The Crow remake starring Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs SLAMMED by critics in scathing first reviews
The reviews are in, and critics are suggesting the new remake of The Crow should have flown right past theaters.
The dark superhero film, which stars Bill Skargård and the singer FKA Twigs, arrived in theaters on Friday, but reviews were embargoed until around when Thursday night preview screening began, which has come to be seen by Hollywood prognosticators as a marker of studios fearing a poor reception. Although Yu called it a 'sensible distinction' to make, he added it was a 'likely futile disclaimer to evade existing in the shadow not only of a cult classic, but also of a tragic and storied legacy,' referring to Lee's death, 'that shrouded and ultimately fueled the original film’s beloved status. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Robert Abele mocked The Crow remakes love scenes between Skarsgård and FKA Twigs as an 'insufferable audition for Euphoria,' and he criticized the 'flat gray murk of Steve Annis’ cinematography and Robin Brown’s production design.'
