The law includes an exemption for news, public affairs, or sports broadcasts or accounts, to the extent that it is protected by the First Amendment. “The leaders of this are showing artists who are moving here following their dreams that our state protects what we work so hard for, and I personally want to thank all of our legislators and people who made this bill happen,” said Luke Bryan. A group of recording artists, songwriters, composers, publishers and other figures are advocating for the additional protections as part of the Human Artistry Campaign .
