Taylor Swift ‘s Tortured Poets Department is on pace for a massive opening, and in under 24 hours, the album already beat the record for most streams in a single day on Spotify, the service confirmed on Friday. Per Spotify, Swift also broke her own record from last year’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) release to become the most-streamed artist in a single day on Friday. Rolling Stone labeled The Tortured Poets Department an instant classic in our review, with Rob Sheffield writing that it “might be Taylor Swift’s most personal album yet.”
