The singer-songwriter, 34, reportedly has royal blood running in her veins. She is distantly related to a French king and Johnny Depp, according to a genealogist's report.
Going back through her bloodline, one of her ancestors was King Louis XIV, the French monarch who built the Palace of Versailles, Roi Mandel, the director of research at MyHeritage, told TODAY.com on Friday. According to Mandel, the superstar is an eighth cousin 11 times removed of King Louis XIV — the French monarch who built the Palace of Versailles and reigned from 1643 to 1715. While receiving the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International, she said: 'If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson's great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that's me writing in the "quill" genre.'
