Taraji P. Henson Shares How Being a Parent to Son Marcell Impacts Her Career: 'I'm a Mother First'
On Monday, June 16, Taraji P. Henson sat down with her co-stars, Sherri Shepherd and Teyana Taylor, to discuss the importance of Black women in entertainment and how motherhood impacts their career.
Henson, who got pregnant with her son during her junior year at Howard University, added that being a mom at the start of her career helped her create separation between her job and private life. “When I started my career, Marcell was really young, so I couldn’t come home and talk about Hollywood ‘cause he had to eat, we had homework and so that’s what trained me to turn that switch on and off," she said. All parents worry about their kids, but then when you see the news and you see people getting off for killing innocent children with no weapon it's like, that doesn't exempt my son."
