Surprise Moana sequel to hit cinemas this year, Disney announces

Moana 2 initially developed as TV series, but studio so ‘impressed’ by the footage it decided to turn it into a cinematic follow-up

Dave Derrick Jr, who worked on the original film as a story board artist, will direct Moana 2, while Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina are writing the songs. The film’s description reads: “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.” Iger also announced in the earnings call that Disney+ had secured the streaming rights for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which will land on the platform on 15 March.
