Suranne Jones on working with famous husband for C4 Witch Trials show

Suranne Jones began investigating witches for Channel 4 show after her documentary maker husband Laurence Akers wrote a "brilliant" treatment for her

The Doctor Foster actress has teamed up with her husband Laurence Akers to film a two-part Channel 4 documentary on the history of witches and how misogynistic tropes are still weaponised against women to this day. Suranne was shocked to find that a lot of the misogyny that drove the witch trials in Pendle and later in Salem, USA, in 1692 is still with us today, blooming across the darker corners of the internet. We’re more used to seeing Suranne in popular shows such as Doctor Foster , Gentleman Jack or Scott & Bailey than fronting documentaries but she says she’d love to make more factual TV – especially if it means working with her husband.
