The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Donald Trump had immunity from prosecution for his official acts, dealing a blow to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s election conspiracy case against the former president. On remand, the District Court must carefully analyze the indictment’s remaining allegations to determinewhether they too involve conduct for which a President must be immune from prosecution,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion. The ruling essentially raises doubts about what charges Trump will face when he goes to trial and, for the ones that remain, the type of evidence that Smith and his prosecution team will be able to bring before a jury.
