Sufjan Stevens’ Musical ‘Illinoise’ Will Open on Broadway in April
Sufjan Stevens' musical 'Illinoise' will open on Broadway on April 24.
The musical — based on Stevens’ 2005 concept album Illinois — will run for 16 weeks under director and choreographer Justin Peck, who crafted its story with Jackie Sibblies Drury. “We feel lucky that we get to continue sharing this unique show with future audiences on Broadway… On behalf of my team, we welcome this rare opportunity with full hearts.” Illinoise features new arrangements of Illinois — helmed by Stevens’ frequent collaborator Timo Andres — performed by an 11-piece band and three vocalists, who will be announced at a later date.
